It’s officially been 3 weeks since we signed the papers and became homeowners. It has been a wonderful and completely exhausting experience, especially with a 7 month old that is cutting her first teeth.
The house is a charming 3 bedroom colonial in one of the cutest neighborhoods in town. As much as we do really love the house, the biggest selling point was the location. It is only a couple of blocks from a great elementary school, just a little farther from the middle school and it is a real neighborhood with neighbors that leave fresh baked blueberry muffins on your front doorstep. (Thanks Najwa!)
The house is in great condition but was in need of some updating, maybe a lot of updating. The entire house is ::gasp:: wallpapered and the color of the aluminium siding is less than desirable. Thankfully the wallpaper is actually very neutral, nothing super retro or gaudy, but is starting to peel in places. So right after we closed on the house the wallpaper stripping began in the living and dining rooms.
The entire moving process started with an attempt to carefully pack things up in boxes with labels to let us know what room they would go to, and ended up with us filling up cars with random things that somehow all ended up in the guest room. With the downstairs floors covered in protective paper, dust from the walls being sanded everywhere and painting only barely beginning, we were not exactly able to move things into their new homes.
After 3 weeks we have completed most of the painting (I just can’t bring myself to finish the trim in the dining room, this weekend!) and the downstairs is starting to look like a real home. I have documented the process of removing the wallpaper and will work on a blog post when the rooms are finished.
I hope to share some of the DIY projects that I hope to do (I seriously have an entire pinterest board of them) and I am looking forward to decorating for the holidays! My favorite season is Autumn and I have already broken out the table cloth, next week is apple picking!
